Now the dust has settled on the first weeks of 2025 and you’re (hopefully!) feeling back into the swing of work, it’s a great time to get those new year plans firmly in place.
Hugely ambitious goals can be hard to keep in the cold winter months. So a new year is the perfect time to go ‘back to basics’. Though these recommendations may sound straightforward, they’re easy overlooked – and vital to keeping your organisation running smoothly and strongly.
Check in with your team
Schedule an informal chat with every one of your employees. Reconnect with them after the festive period, listen to their thoughts and ideas, and give them that safe space to ask for any support they might need.
Review your policies
Can’t remember when you last audited your procedures and policies? You’re not alone … but it’s time to schedule that review. Do so now and you’ll start 2025 with everything up to date, meaning you’ll only need to make tiny tweaks as the year progresses.
Schedule your training
Calendars get booked up quickly. Secure space for yourself as well as your clients and plan your training and development days. Pinpoint areas where you need to invest your time to develop the business, and where managers or teams need a knowledge refresh or to learn new skills. Making sure you and your team are fully prepared to face – and embrace! – new challenges ahead.
Bring everyone together
After the Christmas break and (if you’re like us!) some unexpected extra working-from-home days courtesy of the snow, even the best teams may feel a little bit disconnected. Whether in person or virtually, regroup everyone to chat together.
Focus on business goals, ask transparent questions and make sure everyone feels motivated and confident. It’s also a great time to give your staff the chance to reflect on the past year and celebrate successes, both as a team and as individuals.
These core parts of your HR processes are the foundations for setting a successful business and a happy workplace. Get these right, and your organisation will be ready for a brilliant 2025.
