MY WORK EXPERIENCE
Before this week, my idea of HR was vague, I didn’t know too much about it (only the stuff my mum mentions). However, this week has opened my eyes to all the key aspects of HR. What I’ve learnt from this is that working in HR isn’t just about hiring and firing and enforcing policies for businesses, the most important thing about HR is building relationships, building a community. I’ve been fortunate enough to spend this past week among the HR environment, seeing what takes place at McMillan and Associates on a typical day (lots of biscuits and cups of tea!).
Reflecting on the past week, the most impressive thing I found was the levels of support within the workplace. Asking for help wasn’t seen as embarrassing, in fact it was seen as an impressive willingness to learn. It was that enthusiastic approach that forced me to think about HR as a future career option which I’m sure my mum would be very proud to hear.
Overall, this week has completely changed my perception of HR. It plays a vital role in partnering and shaping a company’s success. I now find myself walking away from this experience with a newfound appreciation for the people (Like yourselves Lucy + Zoe) for the immense amount of work put in to ensure everyone can do their best work. I have surprised myself with the work I have completed. I have to admit I am awful at working with computers. On Tuesday, I found myself wanting to smash my laptop numerous times, because I couldn’t manage to figure out how to use Canva. However, after persevering I am very pleased with the designs that came out and hopefully Lucy will be receiving plenty of emails from businesses interested in the CMBC.
Finally, a huge thank you to yourselves for this week. I’ve really enjoyed myself and I appreciate your patience with me. Thank you , Zak.
