Have you heard others talk about their colours and how someone is a ‘bit red’ or that’s a ‘very blue thing to do?’ Are you wondering what it is all about and where to find out more?
If so, then I can share with you that they are talking about Insights Discovery. But what is it?
Insights Discover is a profiling tool that helps you to understand yourself, others in your team and improve your relationships with colleagues. We run sessions on this frequently with teams at all levels from boards and executive level teams through to individual teams and services. We have seen and heard first-hand about the positive impact that the Insights Discovery tool has on teams. Ultimately, it is the people in our businesses and teams that are our biggest asset and investing in them and helping them to work better together is surely a no brainer?
A brief summary of Insights Discovery
Insights Discovery is a psychological tool, based on Jung’s work that looks at our natural preferences and how we experience life. We are all different yet too often we fail to understand this in our colleagues, and this can lead to conflict and issues within our teams. We believe this lack of understanding can hold teams back from being their best and most productive. Our experience (having delivered this to over 500 people) is that it helps individuals to start understanding how their behaviour impacts on others and ways to improve this and build a fantastic team.
If you are still not convinced, then I will share that we spend the first couple of hours of every team away day at McMillan & Associates sharing our colours and discussing how we can adapt to work better with each other. We have a team with a whole mix of colours which means we are diverse in both our thinking and our style of working which is absolutely fantastic. We are brave enough to talk openly about what irritates us and to give each other feedback. We all feel that his openness ensures we don’t ever feel like we are rubbing each other up the wrong way or allowing grievances to fester below the surface and then bubble up into significant conflict and tension. Being honest about our own weaknesses and seeking feedback is in my experience, something that very few teams are able to do well and yet crucial to success.
